Now, outside of our eagle and Lady Liberty, I'm not much of a fan of national and state symbols. Any place that has the time to name their "official" bird, song or snack frankly has too much time on their hands...that is, unless their choices are Colbeagle Eagle, "Charlene," and Americone Dream, respectively. As for flower? Hmm...is Yankee Rose taken? No? Well then, in that case, how about the namesake of the subject of our twentieth installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!

Today's feature is the riding of Wild Rose: the fightin' Rosa acicularis!

The riding is best known for being home to Banff National Park, one of the world's most popular national parks...and yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, Banff manages to fight off some of UNESCO's peace-mongering hippie protectionism, bringing in nearly 4 million tourists per year (and many more millions of dollars!) to the fightin' Rosa acicularis! Mmm, smell them greenbacks, UNESCO...sniff that sweet scent of capitalistic success!

Perhaps the most famous landmark in Banff, and all of Wild Rose, is the pristine Lake Louise, located on the Western edge of the park. The lake gets its crystal emerald color from rock flour, which formed due to eroding glaciers. Now, all the tree-tniks will jump out and decry Louise, claiming its hard evidence of global warming: hey hosers, how about we try making nude snow angels outside the Chateau this December, and see how much "warming" goes on then?

And finally, the riding is home to the city of Canmore. Now, I have mixed feelings about Canmore: sure, its home to the Festival Of Eagles every October, celebrating the majestic golden eagle passing through...but this is also the same town the liberal Hollywood media rolls through every time they need a mountain backdrop, for such anti-American flicks as Brokeback Mountain and Snow Dogs. Oh, and something about idolizing some guy named Mike.

And which MP has the wild buds and thorn to govern over such a rocky riding? Why, it's none other than Conservative MP Blake Richards, who has served the riding since 2008. Contact MP Richards here to make Sir Stephen the Rockies' new Diamond Of The Wilderness!
