Now we all know that hte auto industry is struggling...this economy has left gas prices soaring, consumers without enough to afford new heels, and auto CEOs forced to fly without corporate charters due to piece-meal bailouts from Congress. It's just sad, really. But perhaps GM and Chrysler can get the ball rolling in the region with the highest car sales per capita in all of Canada, the "Car Capital of Canada," and the subject of our eighteenth installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!

Today's feature is the riding of Wetaskiwin: the fightin' peacemakers!

The name Wetaskiwin comes from the Cree witaskiwin, meaning "hills where peace was made." Now, that sounds just lovely...but that's only if it were true, and not total bull. Hills where peace was made? A little hard to believe that when you consider that your city's coat of arms features the motto "I wish for peace, I prepare for war," and a Cree warrior brandishing an axe...standing with a godless killing machine! Not even Fox News can fear-monger this well!

The riding is also home to the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, a transport and aviation museum that celebrates the "spirit of the machine." Take a literal ride through the innovation of the machinery that moves us, from an 1880's plow to a modern-day...plow. Innovation, Reynolds Museum? Sounds too similar to evolution...what, now are you going to try to tell me that my Cadillac Escalade evolved from a freaking horse and buggy?

And finally, Wetaskiwin is home to Canada's Aviation Hall Of Fame, which honors those whose contributions in avation helped excel Canada as a nation, and its air industry to excel Air Canada's customer service to just past "satisfactory at best!" Sure, you've got your big names, like F.W. Baldwin and George Buerling, but CAHF...where's my induction? Not only do I have my own jet with Virgin Airlines, but I'm an experienced passenger of the USAF Thunderbirds!

And which MP spreads his wings to enforce peace through the car-filled hills of Wetaskiwin? Why, it's none other than Conservative MP Blaine Calkins, who has served the riding since 2006. Contact MP Calkins here to rev up the vintage 1910 Holt Caterpillar tractor: its time for my induction parade!
