Sorry, I seemed to have lost track of time in my daytime stories...it seems as if Rafe is out of that coma yet again, and has now turned into his evil twin Drake! I tend to drift away when watching soaps like Days Of Our Lives, Guiding Light and As The World Turns...all shows created, written and/or produced by Ted Corday, an alumnus of the University Of Alberta, which can be found in the subject of our first installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!
Today's feature is the riding of Edmonton-Strathcona: the fightin' Strathconi!

As I mentioned, the riding is home to the University Of Alberta, Canada's ninth largest university, and second largest in the west. Besides being the home of three Rhodes Scholars, UA is also the proud home to the #1 Threat to not only America, but evidently the Canada West conference, the UA Golden BEARS...and their ever-so cute (but just as evil) female athletic counterparts, the UA Pandas. UBC Thunderbirds, you've been warned.
| |

The riding is also home to the famous Whyte Avenue, which every Edmonton Oilers hockey season turns into the "Copper Kilometre," or for those who aren't hosers and keep off Canadian English spelling and the metric system, the "Blue Mile." Why a street called Whyte Avenue is turned Blue for playoff season is beyond me, but perhaps it has something to do with the drunken stripping and using shopping carts for transportation...?

And Strathcona is a very unique riding, in that it is the only riding in the entire province to not be represented in Parliament by a Conservative. After 36 years of glorious right-wing rule, the New Mustach-o-crats won by a mere 463 votes in the 2008 election...but won by over 6,000 in 2011; this is reason to fear, people! The liberal politburo has entered the pure Conservative Alberta bloodstream, and it must be crushed!
| |
So...who is the feared friendly face behind this riding? Why, it's none other than New Democrat MP Linda Duncan, who has ruled served Strathcona since 2008. Contact MP Duncan here to let her know you support Edmonton-Strathcona being "fixed" as part of the new Colberta!
