Nation, you all know my thoughts about the Canadian left: Liberals and the NDP are just like our Democrats, give or take a few secret Muslims or sponsorship scandals. But I must credit former Liberal MP David Kilgour, who, like me, has a Ph.D. from Knox College...wait, you mean there's a Knox in Canada? Where's my diploma, UofT? Anyhow, its obvious why Kilgour would receive such an honor, as he was the former MP of the subject of our thirteenth installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!

Today's feature is the riding of Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont: the fightin' black hole!

The riding made headlines in 2007, when it infamously presented a bill asking for Bigfoot to be proteceted under the Species At Risk Act. But just when MW-B could have become the laughingstock of Canadian politics (take that, Trinity-Spadina!), their ballsy MP stepped in, claiming not only that he did not even support his constituents' bill, but he didn't even support Bigfoot, as he believed if he were real, that he would likely vote NDP. Now that takes über-gravitas.

The riding is also the hometown of actor Nathan Fillion, who attended Holy Trinity Catholic High in Mill Woods Park. Now it's bad enough that Fillion played an excommunicated priest-turned-serial killer, working for the "The First Evil" on Buffy The Vampire Slayer: but did you know that Fillion is also a descendant of Confederate General, "Lost-Causer" and all-around whack-job Jubal A. Early? I'm not sure what makes me angriest: Caleb, Gen. Early, or Drive!

And finally, MW-B is host to the Beaumont Blues Festival, host of the largest all-Canadian blues festival every Labour Day weekend. Now, I've never been much of a blues fan: I don't need some dude with a chip on their shoulder telling me how crappy my life is...that's what Glenn Beck is for. But you mean to tell me that this is the one place where I can actually see the Raygun Cowboys, Madagascar Slim AND Erin & Adam at the same show? Where are the scalpers?

And which MP has the 8-bar balls to keep Confederate devil priests out, and sasquatches in? Why, it's none other than Conservative MP Mike Lake, who has served the riding since 2006. Contact MP Lake here to make the only jam at next year's Blues Fest the "Where Did All The Liberals Go?" Blues!
