I've just been reading up on Rob Anders, one of the few Canadian MPs left who rather than thinking with his head, already knows with his gut. His gut knows so much, it knows not to pick up a phone call from Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela, because apologizing for branding him a "terrorist" would involve thinking...and that's just what the terrorists want. Anyhow, Anders is the MP of the subject of our third installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!

Today's feature is the riding of Calgary-West: the fightin' Westies!

The West is home to the world-famous Hart House in Patterson Heights, home to the legendary Hart pro wrestling family. Trained by father Stu Hart, the basement, dubbed "The Dungeon," gave rise to such ring legends as Bret and Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith and Chris Jericho. Big ups to the late Stu Hart...not only for giving us his children for entertainment each week for decades, but for actually wrestling a grizzly bear on his porch...and winning!

The riding is also home to the University Of Calgary, the third-largest university in the province. The UofC grounds are home to McMahon Stadium, which annually hosts the Calgary Stampeders, the city's team for Canadian "football," a freak hybrid of America's game, just with donuts, beer, et Français. As well, UofC is the home of the Dinos, a team name that I will work to strip from the school...there will be no evolution on the freak football fields of Colberta!

And finally, the West is home to Canada Olympic Park, host site of the 1988 Winter Olympics. While the event brought Canada global shame for failing to take home a single gold on home ice (literally), the event is also remembered for the debut of the Jamaican Bobsled team, the events which would highlight the all-time holiday smash film Cool Runnings. And like the film, Sir Stephen always carries his lucky eggs in his pants...except his are his balls.

And which MP feels the rhythm (and subsequent rhyme) for Calgary West in the House Of Commons? Why, it's none other than Conservative MP (and Ricky Gervais lookalikeRob Anders, who has served the riding since 2007.
