Everyone knows I'm all for cultural diversity: I pride myself on only associating myself with like-minded immigrants, from countries as near as Scotland, and as far as Ireland. But moving from rural South Carolina to the busy streets of NYC has been quite the culture shock, as I have never had the option of four kinds of canned shwarma before! Hopefully, this multicultural integration will help ease me in to the diverse subject of our twenty-third installment of the CCC's 28-part series, Better Know A- Lberta!
Today's feature is the riding of Calgary-East: the fightin' Easties!

|
The East is home to Fort Calgary, a fort set up by the Northwest Mounted Police in 1875 to force out whiskey traders from the area. Meeting at the elbow of the Bow and Elbow Rivers (say that ten times fast!), the Fort is now a National Historic Site, but luckily for all of us, has not yet been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perhaps it has something to do with the city shamelessly renting out the venue for weddings, parties, or Murder Mystery nights...

The riding is also is home to the Big Rock Brewery, home of Alberta's favorite oddly-named brews, including Grasshöpper Wheat, Kold Lager and Warthog Cream Ale. Named after the Okotoks Erratic,
Big Rock is also known for its annual "Eddies," celebrating the best in
homemade viral ads for the brand: sure, Big Rock, you may have 15 years
of Eddies under your belt, but I've had three Green Screen
Challenges...and made John McCain exciting! I WIN!

|
And finally, Calgary-East gives its residents the royal treatment in this special neighborhood near Elliston Lake, literally giving the "red carpet treatment" to the citizens of Red Carpet!
Where the name comes from, nobody knows...but one wonders whether the Carpet truly matches the drapes!

|
And which MP's always rolls out the red carpet to best serve his beer-swilling constituents? Why, it's none other than Conservative MP Deepak Obhrai, who has served the riding since 1997. Contact MP Obhrai here to ensure that the biggest of the Big Rocks in the Eastern are inside Stephen's trousers!
